Your clients have read about lab-grown and natural diamonds before they reach your counter. Your job is not to pick a side. It is to explain the difference clearly and let them choose.
Three facts to start from
- Both are real diamonds. Same material, same hardness, same sparkle.
- The difference is origin. One formed in the earth; the other was grown in a lab.
- Price follows origin. Wholesale prices for lab-grown stones fell roughly 13–14% year over year in the first half of 2026, according to analyst Edahn Golan’s data reported by JCK. They have been getting cheaper, and natural stones behave differently.
The script
Both are real diamonds. One formed in the earth, the other was grown in a lab. Lab-grown gives you more size and quality for the budget; natural is rarer and carries a different story. Which of those matters more to you?
Then stop talking and listen. The answer tells you which stone to show.
Four rules that protect you
- Name the origin everywhere. On the invoice, the tag and the certificate: lab-grown or natural, never left to inference.
- Do not promise resale value for either. Lab-grown prices are still moving.
- Price both with the same rule. A falling wholesale cost should not force you to chase the price down.
- Sell the piece, not only the stone. The design, the setting and the craftsmanship are where your margin and your difference live.
A note on stock
Because lab-grown prices keep moving, order stones against a sale or hold only a small inventory. Natural stones can sit longer.
